Excellent Work Celebration Gallery, 12th June 2020

    By Enniskillen Royal | Latest News | Comments are Closed | 12 June, 2020 | 0

This week’s entries to the Celebration Gallery demonstrate some of the fantastic work and independent learning being done by ERGS pupils as they remain in lockdown but keen to keep their learning going. Don’t worry if your work isn’t included this week as teachers have been sending through all kinds of material that we will keep uploading over the coming days and weeks.

Over the last few weeks pupils in year 8 Technology pupils have been working on a range of graphics projects. They have completed drawings in isometric and two point perspective this week and below are some excellent examples from a selection of Year 8  – Mr McDevitt

We are very much looking forward to Junior Drama Club’s first episode of their virtual play ‘Erne Emergency’ to be aired on the school website and app on Monday 15th June. I hope you will all be able to listen in and that you enjoy the story; the pupils have had great fun making it. The cast have put in a lot of work and we all learnt a thing or two about virtual meetings and how the recording devices on mobile phones pick up sounds from miles away that you hadn’t even heard. Also that duvets have more uses than you would think… Thank you for your continuing support of the Junior Drama Club. – Mrs McDowell

An excellent piece of History work from Daniel Rowsome 8C.  Daniel has answered the questions accurately and effectively in very good detail. – Mr McMahon

An excellent piece  of English work from Emma Fawcett 8A.  Emma has used language techniques and punctuation devices for impact and she also has varied sentence structure for extra impact. – Mr MCMahon

Despite Lockdown it seems a number of our Year 9 French pupils have managed to go abroad and send back a few postcards about their experiences. – Mrs Quinn

Congratulation to Heather McCaffery in Year 9 and the French Department who have received their Gold Award for  participation in the  EP Language Championships 2020 hel during Lockdown in May – Mr Bersot

Year 9 Science have been doing some research on Space as part of their physics curriculum – here is a an example of research on the Planets by Chloe Black on 9E – Mr Gallagher

Science Planets by Chloe Black 9E

Congratulations to Oran Harty, Joseph O’Kane, Elisha Gallagher and Jamie Browne in Year 10 who all gained full marks in the Covalent Bonding and Intro to Organic Chemistry quiz set using Google Forms – Dr Wilson

Year 10 HE pupils have been busy creating their own advertisements within Home Economics, as part of their project on ‘Advertising’. Zara Hutchinson  decided to advertise and design a brand new games, with Zara advertising ‘Cattle Battle’. It is evident how much hard work went into this and she really grasped the personal capability of this task- ‘being creative’. Well done Zara and keep up the excellent work- Miss Wynne

Year 10 Artists continue to produce some magnificent work…

These two ‘Final Product’ pieces by Chole Sholes and Luke Moore speak for themselves – Superb!! – Ms Stephenson

    Digital Media; 'Outpouring' Workshop

On Wednesday 10th June, Year 10 pupils, participated in a two hour workshop with the Nerve Centre, Belfast as part of their 'Outpouring' Project. During this workshop, pupils explored what it means to be a young person in Northern Ireland today. This creative, cross-curricular workshop integrated History, Art and Design, Digital Media and imaginative thinking, drawing on materials from the Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive.
Pupils analysed footage showing the experiences of young people in N.I. over the past 50 years. They then used this as inspiration to create a Digital artwork using the app Procreate on the iPad.
This engaging and inspiring workshop was thoroughly enjoyed by all pupils and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Nerve Centre, Belfast for facilitating it.

As we continue our ERGS Alumni Spotlight project, we would like to thank the former pupils who have already shared their stories with us. We have been overwhelmed by the response from our school and wider community, with some alumni profiles receiving up to 40,000 views and generating tremendous interest on our Facebook page.

The aim of the project is to showcase the rich diversity of our alumni community. Every story is unique. Whether your journey has taken you to university, into employment, apprenticeships, family life, community work, entrepreneurship, or somewhere entirely different, we would love to hear from you.

Over the coming months, we hope to feature as many former pupils as possible, celebrating the wide range of experiences, pathways and opportunities that have shaped life beyond ERGS.

If you are a past pupil and would be interested in taking part, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact Mrs Magee (Head of Careers) at smagee609@c2kni.net for further details.

The inaugural ERGS Junior Golf Day took place on 9th June with Castle Hume kindly hosting this event. 20 budding Rory McIlroy's headed out to play on a wet but playable course with bags full of golf balls and no doubt some what lighter on their return! Despite the forecast and early rain before the first tee time at 10am, the conditions improved throughout the day.

As is the nature of the game there were some great shots that will last long in the memory and some not so good ones that are quickly forgotten. The cry of FORE echoed regularly around the course. The values of camaraderie, respect and resilience were all on display to varying degrees. For most this was their first experience of playing 18 holes on a course with an average round time of 5 hours.

We hope to provide the Seniors (Yrs 11-14) with a similar opportunity once they are back in school in September. Once a playing panel has been established then selection can begin for representation to the Ulster Schools Golf Ireland events.

Perpetual trophies for both the Junior and Senior competitions have been sourced and will be presented at the start of next term to each winner in what is hoped will become annual events.

If you are interested in taking up the game please speak to the Junior Convenors at the local clubs of Castle Hume GC, Enniskillen GC, Clogher Valley GC or indeed clubs further afield. All clubs are keen to promote Junior Golf opportunities.

    Mr Hodgson
