Enniskillen Royal vs Sacred Heart, Omagh
Thursday saw our two teams facing an opponent that we had never encountered previously. The girls had a hard task ahead of them due to illnesses on the part of both teams and also, for our Intermediate team, the inability to draw on the Year 12 girls due to mocks.
Nonetheless, the matches were both very well fought.
The Minor team played strongly and their shooting was on target. For the first 3 quarters, there were only ever two points between the two teams. Lovely play both in attack and defence from our girls. During the last quarter, Sacred Heart managed to pull away. They had reserves to draw on and so fresh legs. Despite all their efforts, ERGS lost the match 12-7. A very good result against a team who has played in the league above this in the past.
The Inter team got off to an excellent start slotting in the first goal. This was what we had wanted. However, as the play progressed, it was obvious that we were up against a strong team who were well used to playing with each other. We became rattled and passes didn’t go where they were intended or were incomplete. Sacred Heart seized this opportunity to forge ahead and rack up the goals. By the third quarter, legs were tired, so 3 Year 10s were substituted to give some of the 11’s a rest. They played well, both in defence and attack enabling the two shooters to add more goals to their total. With legs rested, the full team were back on between them, they managed to increase our goals and prevent many more from Sacred Heart.
Final score at full time was 22-9 to Sacred Heart.
