A very successful day for our Yr8-10 athletes who took part in Friday’s Fermangh Schools’ Athletics Meet at the impressive St Michael’s tartan track facility at Cherrymount link road playing fields. With serious athletic talent across the ranks, there were plenty of personal bests and medals achieved in the glorious sunshine and perfect conditions.
The day started with the 100m heats and with all athletes finishing either 1st 2nd or 3rd, and qualifying for the finals.
In the girls 300m and the boys 400m for yr 9 & 10 – Livia Gallagher came 1sts and Tori Davis came 2nd. In the boys 400m Adam Cathcart came 2nd and Ethan Kavanagh 3rd.
In the girls 600m – Claire Zhang and Tori Lilly came 4th and 5th, and in the boys Henry Follis came 3rd and James McAleer came 6th.
The 1000m for yr9 girls saw Ellie Dunlop come 3rd and Emily Black 5th. In the boys Jake Hinchcliffe came 5th and Alex Irvine came 8th. Year 10 girls saw Rachel Cathcart come 5th, and Mackenzie Corbett come 3rd in the boys.
In the 200m heats again like the 100m heats all athletes finished 1st 2nd or 3rd with the majority qualifying for the finals.
Meanwhile off the track in the long jump Euan Burrows came 3rd in the yr9 boys event, and Hannah Johnston came 1st and Sarah Fleming came 2nd.
The 100m Yr8 girls was won by Zoe Elliott and yr8 boys by Jack Dundas. The yr9 girls saw a 1st by Natalie Turner, and 2nd by Livia Gallagher, and in the boys Dylan McCutcheon came 1st and Euan Burrows came a very tight 4th. In yr10 girls Marianna Bell came 3rd and Carla Smith came 7th in a very close race.
In the 200m finals Poppie Beddard came 4th and Kerrie Carrothers came 6th in the yr8 girls race. In the boys Jacob Balfour came 3rd and Connor Phair came 5th. The yr9 girls saw Sarah Fleming come 3rd and Hannah Longworth 4th. Yr9 boys saw Dylan McCutcheon come 1st and Euan a close 4th. The Yr10 girls saw Nerida Kudavaite came 6th, and in the boys Jamie Morrow 5th and Ethan Kavanagh 6th.
The final races where the 4x100m relays…. The yr8 girls came 2nd, yr8 boys 1st, yr9 girls 1st, yr9 boys 2nd, year 10 girls 2nd and yr10 boys 2nd.
A massive well done to all involved!
