ERBC had a very successful trip to Newry Head of the River on Saturday coming away with 4 wins. 18 crews made the trip while the seniors stayed at home to train.
In Race 1 there was a win for the girls Junior 16 eight of Hannah Armstrong, Rachel Cathcart, Evie McGarry, Zara Welsh, Ruby Hamill, Annabelle Kingston, Rhea Cartin McCloskey, Eva Johnston and cox Abbey Wilson
In Race 2 there was a great win for the boys Junior 16 eight Ryan Topping, Hugo McChesney, Luke Bailey, William Bogle, Owen Kelly, Evan Donaghy, George Kernaghan, Austin Cassidy and cox Eva Johnston who had the 2nd fastest time over the 5 Km course after Neptune Club eight in a time of 16.28.8.
There was also a fantastic win for the girls WJ15 4X+ of Natalie Turner, Caitlin Kelly, Tori Davis, Isabella Wright and cox Abbey Wilson in a great time of 19.26.8. The girls are all a year young in this age category so this was a great achievement for them.
Bruno Maguire Favro and Harley Sheppard overcame all their competitors to take the medals in the J16 2X in a time of 19.57.7.
The year 9 rowers rowed Junior 15 as this ahead did not offer events for Junior 14 but they all gained a lot of invaluable experience taking part which they will build on as the rowing season continues.
Next up for ERBC’s rowers is Lagan Head of the River on Saturday, 11th February.
Many thanks to all the coaches and parents who travelled to Newry to help the rowers and to Gerry Murphy who took the boats up.
