On Friday 9th March our Year 9 team headed to Fivemiletown College for their annual Blitz tournament.
There were only 4 teams on this occasion and each of them played very well.
Our first match was against Fivemiletown. We started out a bit on the wobbly side, but soon gained momentum. With good work in the midfield and attack, we led 3-1 at half time. Fivemiletown came back to 3-3 within a few minutes of the start; but with a determined attitude, ERGS upped their game ensuring the ball got to Lauren Booth and Rachel Cullinan in the Shooting Circle. Full time was 6-5 to ERGS.
Game two was straight away, against St Fanchea’s. With a slight team change, ERGS took to the court again. On this occasion, the change of players unsettled the team a little and by half time we were losing 3-0. Upon further reshuffle, the team were back on track again, and played really strongly. They won the game 5-4.
The final game was against St Kevin’s, Lisnaskea. This was really to be the decider as, like us, they had won all their games. The girls played well, passing strongly and intercepting well. Unfortunately, St Kevin’s were stronger and went ahead 5-0 by half time. The team were reshuffled again to allow everyone to get the opportunity to play in the Blitz. The second half was also played well, with Lauren pulling back a goal. Final score 9-1, definitely not reflective of the game
The girls came 2nd in the competition, a great achievement.
It was good to watch the different dynamics in the games between all the players. It bodes well for next year.
