Some of the rowers from Enniskillen Royal Boat Club competed in Chester Virtual Regatta last weekend and there was a great win in the Junior 14 singles for Niamh Cassidy in a time of 2.42.4 minutes which was 4.5 seconds ahead of her nearest rival from Grovenor RC. Niamh went on to achieve a 2nd place alongside Alex Kerr in the Junior 15 2X event in a time of 2.50.6 mins over a virtual 750m course. Chester Regatta is one of the oldest Regattas in the UK and with racing cancelled due to COVID-19 the organisers decided to run a virtual event this year. These virtual events have given the rowers from the Club a focus over the last few months while they have been unable to row on the water at the Club and have been training at home.
ERBC rowers have been using Lockdown to attempt to break some more Irish Indoor Records. Lewis Nixon achieved his 2nd Irish Indoor record last week, this time for a 6K in a time of 21.58.7 minutes. His half marathon record was unfortunately beaten by James Murphy from St Joseph’s RC.
Rower Niamh Campbell submitted an Irish record distance of 283m rowed over one minute in the age category to have it beaten the same day by Kate O’Flynn from Lee Valley RC by 14m. Maeve Donnelly has broken the 17/18 age group 5K record in a time of 19.51.6 taking over a minute and a half off the previous record. 14 year old Niamh Cassidy is the new holder of the 2K record in a time of 7.43.3 and Tim Murphy is the 10,000m Irish Record holder. Sam Balcombe still holds his half marathon record that he set a few weeks ago making it a total of 5 Irish Indoor record holders at ERBC. Well done to them all.
