Two of the Boat Club’s rowers have become Irish indoor record holders. Tim Murphy gained 2 new records in the last couple of weeks to add to the 10,000m one he already held. He secured the 5,000m record in the 15-16 age category with a great time of 17.58.9. He has beaten the record set by Timmy O’Riordan of Cork Boat Club by 23 secs. Tim them set about trying to beat the marathon record which he did in great style by covering the 42,195m in a time of 2.52.32. He has beaten the previous record held by Gary O Donoghue by 3 minutes 13 secs.
Next to secure an Irish Record for themselves was Zoe Elliott who has broken the 5000m record previously held by Rachel Devane from Portmagee Rowing Club since 2018 by 58.3 seconds. Well done to Zoe and Tim, this is a wonderful achievement for them while they have been training at home.
ERBC’s young rowers have been very busy throughout Lockdown trying their best to keep motivated and active so that they are fit when they return to the Boat Club. Many thanks to Mr Holland and Mr Rix who have been keeping the rowers motivated with Zoom training sessions 3 times a week.
Since 9th January the rowers, coaches and parents from the Boat Club have been participating in a Virtual Malin to Mizen Head Challenge to raise funds for Action Mental and RNLI. Many of the rowers have already completed the 580 Km of the Challenge while others will continue on the virtual road until Easter Sunday. Please support this fundraising event if you can.
