ERBC had their Gala Ball on Friday night with 270 guests including parents, coaches, sponsors, friends, supporters and most importantly 53 of the Boatclub’s rowers. Gavin Noble, Irish Olympian and Ireland’s Olympic Federation of Ireland’s Chef de Mission for Paris 2024 was the guest speaker on the night and he was introduced to the audience by Robert Northridge MBE. Gavin spoke about his love of Enniskillen and Fermanagh. He told how his Dad Tom who was a coach at ERBC told him in a letter when he was at university that every person we ever meet and every choice we ever make brings us to where we are. He explained to the rowers in the room exactly what a letter was and how it was like a family WhatsApp group but unfortunately there were no thumbs up emojis to give a quick answer and that the downside of receiving a letter was that you had to take time to write back. He talked about the importance of living in the moment and appreciating what we have, how the green is often perfectly green just where we are.
The Heads or Tails game raised £1080 which was donated to The Aisling Centre to help them with the work they do in our local community. Richard Smith spoke about the services that they offer and the costs involved in keeping it going. The prizes were sponsored by Garth Armstrong, Abbey VAT and Customs and Olivia Donaghy, Feet First, Irvinestown.
The Boat Club are very grateful to everyone who supported the night by coming along on the night, buying raffle tickets and donating prizes. Thanks to rowers Niamh Campbell and Aine and Tina McCaffrey for the beautiful music during the drinks reception and to Encirc for sponsoring the wine.
