Enniskillen Royal Boat Cup hosted the Ulster Schools’ Cup Regatta yesterday from the Boathouse. The race took place from the top of the Killyhevlin Straight to the start of the jetties. The annual event has been missing from the rowing calendar for the last 2 years due to Covid and it was a huge success with a clean sweep of wins for ERBC.
The Regatta first took place in 1946 between the 4 N Ireland rowing schools, ERBC, Methody, Coleraine Grammar School and RBAI. It then became incorporated into the University Cup race day. Robert Northridge was the winner of the very first Craig Cup for Junior 16 eights in 1959 and yesterday he proudly presented all 4 School Cup trophies to the crews from ERBC at the Robert Northridge Boathouse.
The winning boys J18 crew were Tom Blake, Marcus Davis Kunze, Oran Harty, Tim Murphy,
Lewis Nixon, Charlie Smith, Nathan Kelly, Luke Paton and cox Frankie Reihill
The girls J18 crew were Niamh Campbell, Laura Turner, Acorn Cassidy, Katie Donnelly, Aine McCaffrey, Chloe Thompson, Martha McBrien, Rachel Cullinan and Cox Grace Ralph
The girls J16 crew – Isabella Wright, Rhea Cartin – McCloskey, Eva Johnston, Annabelle Kingston, Katie O’Hare, Erin Trimble, Natalie Turner, Zara Welsh and Cox Abbey Wilson
The Boys J16 crew – Oliver Khew, Jacob Halliday, Hugo McChesney, Oran Harty, Rory Keogh, Owen Kelly, George Kernaghan, Justin Smith and Cox Katelyn Fee
Many thanks to Mr Holland for organizing it and to everyone who helped to make it such a great event. Thanks to all the parents who cheered the crews on from the Killyhevlin Hotel.
