Enniskillen Royal Boat Club’s 2 J18 4X- ERBC crews came through the Qualifying round at Henley Royal Regatta on Friday evening in very fine style to the delight of everyone at the Club and all the supporters from far and wide. The boys crew of Nathan Timoney, Jack Kennedy, Odhran Donaghy and Jack McDade are competing in The Fawley Challenge Cup and they qualified fastest out of the 50 Crews when 7 crews went through to join the 17 crews who had prequalified.
The girls crew of Zoe McCutcheon, Maeve Donnelly, Victoria Wilson and Caragh Leonard finished 5th fastest of the 43 Crews that were required to qualify for the Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup and are the 1st Irish Junior Women’s Crew ever to qualify for Henley Royal Regatta. 11 crews had pre-qualified for this event and 9 crews went through from the qualifiers.
The boys have a bye through the next round with the girls taking on Nottinghamshire County Rowing Association on Wednesday evening at 18.50. All the races will be streamed on You Tube.
Coach Derek Holland was absolutely delighted that both crews made it safely through the qualifiers and training will continue over the next few days on the water at Henley. Barney Rix and Jane Willis are holding the fort at home with the rest of the crews training hard for the Irish Rowing Championships in less than 2 weeks’ time. Many thanks to Derek and to Gwen McCutcheon for driving the rowers to Henley.
