ERBC competed at Lough Rynn Regatta last Saturday with 2 great wins from the 4 crews. The 4X- crew of Aine McCaffrey, Martha McBrien, Zoe Eliott and Katie Donnelly came 3rd in their heat to make the W4X- final. The girls then joined up with their crewmates Nikki Kernaghan, Laura Turner, Jenny Little, Chloe Thompson and cox Grace Ralph for the final of the Junior Womens eights. The girls had a fantastic race and lead from the start beating the girls from St Michael’s Rowing Club from Limerick by 26 seconds over the 2k course in a time of 7.22.00. The W4X- Final was less than an hour later and it proved difficult for them. The girls finished in a time of 8.27.3.
ERBC’S Assistant Coach, Barney Rix made a return to racing with crewmate Sam Balcombe in the Intermediate Pair category. They have only been training together for a couple of weeks and they both really enjoyed the experience. They came down the 2 km course in a time of 7.41.1
The girls four crew of Nikki Kernaghan, Laura Turner, Jenny Little and Chloe Thompson beat Bann RC in the straight final by almost 18 seconds.
Many thanks to Gerry Murphy for taking the boats down to Lough Rynn, to Barney Rix, Tim Richmond and the parents who took the kids down. Well done to everyone who competed and followed the COVID restrictions at the event.
The focus now for the Boat Club is next month’s Henley Royal Regatta, the girls’ eight and the boys quad will make the trip to compete against the best crews in the world. Good luck to them
