We are delighted to have Harry Beattie as part of our team this week as part of his work experience placement. 🏫 📰
You might have spotted him out and about over the last few days with members of our team. 🎤
Here he is admiring his first double page spread from the Editor’s desk - maybe it will be his desk in future!

Class of 2024
Subjects studied at A’ Level
* Technology and Design
* Food and Nutrition
* Business Studies
I am currently studying a Sustainable Agriculture with Agri-Business degree through Ulster University at Greenmount College. This was a course that came highly recommended by past pupils from school and will lead to a wide opening of doors within the industry.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School gifted me a large amount of support throughout my seven years, allowing me the opportunity to represent Northern Ireland at UK finals, as well as giving me the chance to attend training for the World Angus Youth Challenge in Australia.
During my time at school, I competed in the ABP Angus Youth Challenge. The teachers within the school community provided great encouragement throughout school life and, in the later years of my school career, inspired me to stay focused and achieve a balance between a busy working life outside school and my school books.
Rugby played a massive role in my school career, teaching me that hard work and dedication are essential life skills, and these are values I will carry for the rest of my life.
Alongside my studies, I continue to work at home on my family farm, as well as providing relief milking and farm assistance during the week to local farmers. I am the current Club Leader for Lisbellaw YFC, as well as Chairman of County Fermanagh YFC, and have recently been elected as a Vice President of the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster.
I continue to play in my local silver band and for Clogher Valley Rugby Club, as well as sitting on a wide range of committees and organisations. I have also been selected to represent Northern Ireland next November at the World Stock Judging Finals in Canada.
I began my journey as an auctioneer when I was 16 and currently sell in two marts on a weekly basis. I have also gained experience selling pedigree sheep in Carlisle. I was fortunate enough to spend several summers with Harrison & Hetherington Livestock Auctioneers after passing my GCSEs and, after being offered a full-time role at 16, it was a hard decision to resist the temptation of leaving school for the bigger world.
However, the final two years of school life were definitely my most enjoyable, and I would recommend anyone in any doubt about completing their A’ Levels to stay on and see the journey through.
