As part of our boat naming ceremony before the Head of the Erne we dedicated/blessed a fantastic new Filippi single scull to John Mills. Unfortunately his family were unable to attend but were delighted that John’s friend Canon Kingston was part of the ceremony. We hope that his wife Gretta and family will call to the Club soon to see the boat.
This boat was purchased for ERBC by his son Niall, a former member of the Club and he has been extremely generous to the Club over the last year also sponsoring our new Club water bottles.
John Mills was Headmaster of Gloucester House from 1973 until its closure. He became Housemaster of Munster House at Portora Royal School with responsibility for the Portora Girls, teaching physics until he retired in 1984.
Up until his death he was a great supporter of young people and loved to see them make the most of their abilities and he loved to see them achieve great things. We think that he would be extremely proud to see his name on a fantastic boat at ERBC being used by a wonderful group of young, highly driven and dedicated young rowers.
